Promise to stop sale of illicit liquor
At a huge gathering at Raghubir Nagar in the morning, Prof Mukhi expressed concern at the rising sale of illicit liquor in the area, which jeopardized the life and health of innocent people. He blamed the excise department’s policies for the problem. He promised to put a stop to the sale of illicit liquor if elected in the forthcoming elections. The public, especially women, welcomed Prof Mukhi’s declaration with a roaring applause and shouted slogans in his favour.
Van operators’ appeal and Prof Mukhi’s promiseIn the afternoon, a delegation of the “Delhi School Van Operators Union” & MCV Operators under the leadership of Shri Harsh Dua welcomed Prof. Mukhi and assured him their full support in the forthcoming elections. They also apprised Prof. Mukhi about their problems. They complained that the Delhi Govt had issued an order giving them an ultimatum to convert their vehicles to CNG by 30th June, 2009. Prof. Mukhi has declared called the Delhi Govt.’s order a “Tughlaki Farman”. He pointed out that earlier when the Hon’ble Court had ordered the conversion of all Diesel driven buses to CNG, at that time this Delhi Govt. had not only given sufficient time to bus owners to convert to CNG, it had even exempted the CNG kits from VAT. He wondered why the Govt. was meting out such step-motherly treatment to them this time. Prof. Mukhi demanded from Chief Minister to extend the time limit as well as exempt the CNG kits from VAT. Members of the delegation shouted slogans in favour of Prof. Mukhi and the BJP and assured him their full support in the forthcoming elections
