New Delhi: Prof Jagdish Mukhi today took up the issue of the electricity problems faced by Delhiites, during his election campaign in Hari Nagar, Tagore Garden, Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar, Nangli, Roshan Pura, Bindapur, Vikas Nagar and Dwarka।
He told the people that the Bangalore-based Central Power Research Institute had investigated the performance of private power distribution companies NDPL, BRPL and BYPL and found 90% electricity meters running fast by 2.5%. As a result, these private companies are putting Rs 300 crore in their pockets through illegitimate means every year. The institute’s report has also indicated that certain political leaders have connections with these companies. This means that the public’s hard-earned money is being pocketed by private power companies and politicians. A committee of the Delhi Assembly had also earlier detected a scam in the privatization of power and had recommended a probe.
Prof Mukhi said that he would ensure a proper probe into the scam and bring out the truth before the public.
Promise to reduce taxes for traders
Prof Mukhi received a very warm welcome by hundreds of traders in Tilak Nagar market. Prof Mukhi promised to heavily reduce taxes for businessmen. He pointed out that as Finance Minister of Delhi he had reduced all taxes, which had led to record revenue of 27% as against the earlier 7%. That had been a golden period for the Delhi traders. But now, with the high rate of taxes, the situation has been reversed under the Congress government. More and more people are taking to illegal means to earn money.
Mukhi ji’s promise to reduce taxes once again evoked a huge response from the public. The people assured Prof Mukhi of their support and vote in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
No fee hike
Prof Mukhi reminded the people that he had, during his brief stint as Higher Education Minister in Delhi, launched the now-famous Indraprastha University, popularly known as IP university. Earlier, over 9000 students used to go out of Delhi for studies. But this university opened new avenues for them, and today 113 colleges are affiliated to this university. Prof Mukhi had, for the first and only time in Delhi, reserved 85% seats for Delhi students in this university!
Prof Mukhi lamented the fact that no such efforts had been made by the Congress government to improve the education facilities in the capital. Terming this as unfortunate, he pointed out that BJP governments across the country had not allowed fee hikes at the primary schools. On the contrary, the Congress government had allowed fee hike at all levels of education.
Prof Mukhi assured the people that BJP will ensure affordable education for all sections of society, and fee hikes would not be allowed.
Ladoos this time!
At Raghubir Nagar, the enthusiastic public weighed Prof Mukhi with laddoos! The people also honoured him by tying a traditional turban on this head. The laddoos were then distributed among the people.
